"Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice. Like Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings." - Nelson Mandela
Leadership and Governance
The culture of corruption and abysmal leadership constitute the significant problems that have crippled the current Nigerian society. Related to these issues is the on-going Nigerian Question debate. There is a strong contention that a fundamental re-structure of the Nigerian State is necessary to create a more enabling environment for more accelerated national development. There would be radio programmes that would seek to provide insights on how best to provide critical intervention towards strong institutional development in Nigeria directed towards establishing structures and systems to ensure better governance at all levels.
“All it takes to get poor people out of poverty is for us to create an enabling environment for them. Once the poor can unleash their energy and creativity, poverty will disappear very quickly. .....All they need is opportunity.” ― Muhammad Yunus
Local Economic and Community Devlopment
Critical to overall social and economic development in Nigeria are the underlying challenges of stimulating local economic and community development at the local level. Poor results from implementing earlier held development paradigms and changing contexts are compelling academics, development practitioners, policy and decision-makers to rethink the concepts and processes of development.
The need for economic restructure and diversification, growing demand for more political autonomy and democratisation by component entities, widespread disenchantment with state-led development, and the increasing influence of the civil societies in the country are wearing thin the powers/functions of the state from within. While the changing ‘geo-economy' in the global landscape comprising of space reducing technologies in transport/communications, technological and managerial changes in production of goods and services, increasing mobility of people, capital and firms whittle down the powers/functions of the state from without. Hence, it seems that the fate of most countries including Nigeria lies on how well their localities function. Programmes would be designed to provide insights into how local economy and community development can be actively enabled and supported in different sectors. Such programmes would highlight best practices and successful experiences in other places that are relevant to the Nigerian environment.

Personal Growth and Development
We believe that the quality of the collective is rooted in the quality of the individual. We cannot significantly improve the quality of the society without improving the quality of the individuals that make up the society. No nation can begin to reach their potential without the individuals being aware of their possibilities. We will attempt to synthesise and distil for listeners’ extensive body of information and knowledge in the areas of personal growth and individual resource development and their linkages with proactive leadership development.
"The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people, but the silence over that by the good people." - Martin Luther King Jr
Social Justice Advocacy
Often an environment such as in Nigeria that is rife with corruption, endemic poverty, social exclusion, discrimination, ethnic prejudice, marked inequality, lack of institutional protection, poor justice, law and order delivery tends to encourage social injustice. As a result, flagrant abuse of power, denial of basic rights of individuals, intimidation and culture impunity where the strong readily preys on the weak are all too common. Our radio platform would proactively seek to give voice to those who suffer injustice. It would seek to expose and shine light on reported cases from Nigerians. It would also encourage intervention assistance to victims (where possible).
"Community cannot long feed on itself, it can only flourish with the coming of others from beyond: their unknown and undiscovered sisters and brothers." - Howard Thurman
Townhall Radio Community
Although, successive Nigerian governments have monumentally failed its citizens, it is individuals that should lead the desired crusade for social change in Nigeria. While systemic government mis-management has left Nigeria trapped in the doldrums of increasing poverty and under-development, the onus is on Nigerians both as individuals and as collective to re-define their trajectory towards genuine political, economic and social development.
As the name suggests, Nigeria Townhall Radio is about building townhall consensus towards social change in Nigeria. NTR will focus on building a proactive community. We shall encourage individuals to develop active volunteer culture. We intend to mobilise our audience to individually and collectively articulate and undertake beneficial social intervention actions and services aimed at improving the living conditions in Nigeria.
